Klark Teknik, a subsidiary of Uli Behringer’s Music Tribe, has released its new Mic Booster CM Series. Similar to the Soyuz Launcher and Cloud Microphones’ Cloudlifter, Klark Teknik’s Mic Booster does exactly what it says on the tin.
Offering up to +25dB of clean gain, the Mic Booster CM Series is a sibling to Klark Teknik’s Mic Booster CT 1, this time offering two mic inputs. Mic Booster will work with “almost any dynamic or passive ribbon microphone”, according to the company. Designed for use with low output mics such as the Shure SM7B, the device looks ideal for those recording podcasts or other spoken word, or live recording environments where preamps with less gain won’t quite cut it.
The Mic Booster CM Series is designed for on-the-go use, not requiring any external power supply thanks to it being run on phantom power. Klark Teknik has built the device with the intention of withstanding the rigours of long term use, and provides a three-year warranty programme. The unit has been designed and engineered in the UK, and Klark Teknik says its “exactly the tool you need to get a crisp and clean microphone signal in a robust and simple to use package”.
Pricing is not yet available for the product, however going by the low cost of the Mic Booster CT 1 ($30), we expect this isn’t a device that will break the bank.
